What’s so funny about Super PACs?

Dan Clickman, Executive Director Congressional Programs, Aspen Institute; Senior Fellow, Bipartisan Policy Center, shares his thoughts, insights and some incredible facts regarding  Super PACs and their influence on the 2012 elections cycle in which, according to Mr. Clickman, $33 million has been reported in expenditures so far.  How much more money is going to be infused into this election?  This is the most unhealthy turn our Democracy could have taken….and it’s only the beginning.  The full effects of this “virus” has not been felt yet.  We need to find the vaccine for this killer disease and NOW.

To quote Mr. Clickman, “Super PACs only serve to enrich broadcasters and worse, relentlessly assault Americans with negativity and the ugly side of politics. Public confidence in government is at record lows and unlimited Super PAC expenditures on campaigns further erode Americans’ belief in the effectiveness of their democracy. We need to restore Americans’ belief that their government can work together to find solutions to overcome the obstacles confronting the nation.”

Will President Obama forgive again?

Look away, look away (by Bett and Kare)

There’s no punishment for the henious crimes, no shame for the stolen millions in bundled sub-primes

The president may forgive again, just like he did when he began

He let Bush and Co. slither back under the rock, despite all the war crimes and legal claims talk

Look away, look away said the Pres, we have important work to do!

You and I are sentenced for the bread we take, we are shackled and fined and must serve our time

But, if your crime is so big and complicated that it crashes an economy and deflates every homestead

Then you can bank on a smooth deal instead

Give us a little of what you got says the Pres, and we will look away, look away

After all, you are the 1%, and you control all the rent

You are too big to fail, too powerful not to prevail

That’s OK, we have important work to do!

Look away, look away.

Dear GOP, say the opposite of what you mean and maybe you’ll get it right.

It’s pretty amazing when you think about how much modern-day Republicans refer to Abraham Lincoln.  He who lead the nation through civil war and the end slavery, he who praised the worker and reminded the nation that nothing material existed prior to the labor that produced it–and that labor was to be recognized before all else.  How is it that Mr. Lincoln appeals so much to the GOP?  Or is it that he appeals so much to the average American–hence something to be distorted by right-wing politics to the point of being unrecognizable? Well, Mr. Lincoln himself said it best:  ”You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.”

John Nichols, writing for The Nation, talks about how, despite recent events in Wisconsin and Ohio, despite new anti-labor legislation being shot down by voters, despite an overwhelming movement to recall a governor whose anti-labor agenda is his top priority, the GOP is not letting up on its attacks against labor.  Read the full article here:

Steven Van Zandt: There Is Only One Issue In America

I was obsessed with politics in the ’80s. I’ve recovered and I’m feeling much better now thank you.

By the time I realized, as interesting as it was, I’d better stop this stuff and try to earn a living, I had discovered many of our social problems and quality of life issues could be traced to the same political source: our corrupt-by-definition electoral system. The solution to the problem was as easy to discover as the cause: The elimination of all private finance in the electoral process.
